FAQ

What happens in the trial lesson?

Your first lesson is a full hour, and it’s completely free. Beforehand, I’ll send you a short (five-minute) online questionnaire so I can get a sense of how confident you’re feeling about each topic on your specification. In the lesson itself, we’ll spend some time getting to know each other and your needs, and then work through a topic so you get a genuine feel for how lessons with me work, and learn some useful tips.

What do you cover in lessons?

At their core, my lessons cover all problem areas in the GCSE / A-Level subject specification. This includes practical skills for Physics and Chemistry, and the Large Data Set for Maths. Tackling a topic means going through the content from scratch where needed, and doing a variety of targeted practice questions to consolidate. Prior to Mock and real exams, exam practice will include me creating suitable set of questions / using full past papers where possible. We will then attempt these together during lessons and when ready you can complete these at home and I will mark them separately then provide feedback.

Lessons are highly customised to your needs! We can focus on topics you have fallen behind in or get ahead on later topics so you can get more practice. We can switch between focused subject lessons and general paper preparation. You are always encouraged to let me know where you feel you most benefit, and I will give advice throughout on what I think we should focus on.

What platform do lessons take place on?

Lessons are held over Google Meet. All you need is a webcam and a browser. If you have access to a tablet or other digital writing equipment it can be handy for working through problems together, but it’s by no means necessary!

How do I pay for lessons?

Tutoring is £40 per hour for GCSE and £50 per hour for A-Level. Payment is by bank transfer, due two working days after each lesson. If you’d prefer, we can also arrange to pay in bulk for a block of lessons – your preferred option will be arranged after the trial lesson.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule a lesson?

Cancelling or rescheduling is free with at least 24 hours’ notice. Within 24 hours, a cancellation fee may apply: up to half price if you cancel with at least 2 hours’ notice, or full price for anything later. This is very much at my discretion, and I am usually able to accommodate last minute changes with no issues.

Do you offer past exam paper marking?

Yes! Repeated past paper practise is the best way to prepare for exams. For normal tutoring sessions this is included. If you’d just like a completed paper marked with detailed feedback (without ongoing lessons), these can be sent via email where I will mark each question according to the official mark schemes. I can also provide a check-list of all existing past papers so you can keep track of completed marks. Get in touch to discuss subject, number of papers and timings.
